AIMS hosted our 10th Annual Golf Outing at Randall Oaks Golf Club and Banquets. Over 100 golfers, 31 sponsors, and 20 volunteers came out to celebrate Assisting Individuals with Multiple Sclerosis’s 10th Anniversary.
David Alcozer, the President and Co founder of AIMS shared how hard it is to believe that all this started back in 2011 with just 8 guys who called themselves “the good fellas”. Diagnosed with MS back in 2007 David found himself in denial of his diagnosis, hiding his symptoms from family, friends and coworkers until it was evident his balance and ability to walk was hindered. Co-workers from ABT created a team in honor of David to bring about awareness about MS for the National MS Society. David, still in disbelief and denial named his first team after his beloved persian cat Gizmo. Team Gizmo was born in 2011. People started inquiring about wanting to help and promote awareness locally, therefore AIMS, Assisting Individuals with Multiple Sclerosis was established in 2015. AIMS has helped individuals by donating mobility scooters, installing washroom arm bars, guiding people through the state application process, hosting social meet ups, and much more.
David's signature blend of optimism and first hand experience offers a beacon of hope and solidarity to individuals and their families alike, whether they are facing a new diagnosis or complications from a relapse. The potential to impact individual lives through community support inspired team Gizmos transformation to; AIMS; Assisting Individuals with Multiple Sclerosis is an Illinois non profit corporation registered as a 501C3.
David Alcozer states, “Dealing with this difficult illness is different for everyone ,but it's our privilege to create an opportunity to connect with other MS fighters and feel a sense of community. I will stand tall knowing what I know now and support those who are in my shoes. The faster we invest time into learning-the better we can be. Denial and fear are evil and make our mission on earth more difficult than it needs to be.
It is evident that David's joy comes from bringing people together and further states, I have MS. MS doesn't have me. Its true.
AIMS Mission: Aims is a non profit organization dedicated to providing direct support to people affected by Multiple Sclerosis, raising public awareness and the understanding of MS.
David could not do any of this alone and has A LOT of people to thank.
Special thank you to Cari Boyk, Megan Boyk and Samara Schwartz Dreifus for getting us started in 2015 and for their contribution and impact to AIMS. AIMS would not exist if it wasn’t for them. In their own unique way they helped a man in denial about an illness he didn’t understand become an advocate for others living with MS while being strong and confident! This absolutely has been a team effort from day 1. Thank you for the time you served on our AIMS Committee.
Thank you to our new committee members Jennifer Petrucci, Karoline, Jaime Sanchez, Dave Hellermann, and Rich Renee. We are so blessed to have you as a part of our mission. Our team continues to grow and expand every year.
Last but not least, thank you Alcozer family starting with my brother Jose Alcozer. Officially he and I are the co founders of AIMS but without him a majority of the AIMS events wouldn’t even exist. He’s been an anchor of mine since I was a young kid. Even more today. I know he doesn’t ask for much attention or credit but let me tell you, AIMS wouldn’t be doing what it’s doing without him. Thank you to my Tias, my mother, Alcozer cousins, and wife Jaime for all you do showing up and supporting year after year.
Thank you to our volunteers who sacrificed a day to be with our team. Your help setting up our event, running our registration table, selling raffle tickets, sitting at a hole, setting up dinner and many other tasks are a major part of our success. Thank your for your hospitality and smiling faces.
Thank you to our sponsors who have really made a difference in helping our mission of Assisting Individuals with Multiple Sclerosis! We here at AIMS believe in the power of community and unity. Thank you to all of our 2025 AIMS Sponsors for this year’s 10th Annual Golf Outing. Please check out our Sponsorship page for more details on each sponsor. https://www.helpaims.org/sponsorship
